Holiday Tree?

So I was doing something in the kitchen and heard on the TV that they are putting up the Holiday Tree in DC. huh? Holiday Tree? Do Buddhists decorate trees in December? Jews? Muslims? Why then Holiday Tree? Because being a Christian is the majority in America and we can't possible have a majority. We can't possibly offend any minor groups by celebrating a Christian holiday. We can celebrate Kwanza and Hanukkah though. Pretty soon we'll be celebrating Festivus. At least they use a tree, but I'm still going to call it a Christmas Tree.

Bible as a guide

There is an email circulating that is really old. It quotes from the Bible to prove or disprove (I forget which) some current political issue. People use the Bible to defend or promote anything. If we followed the Bible to the letter we’d still “live in caves and eat mud”. Do I agree with everything W thinks? ‘course not. However, the Bible, to me, is merely a guide. A compilation of stories cobbled together to teach lessons to the reader. Many may be huge exaggerations to make a point. (Limbaugh does this all the time. But peanut brains think he’s serious.) You get my point. I think there is a middle ground that most of America is already in. Most people in “Jesusland” are not Bible thumpers (or stupid talentless people for that matter). And most people in the “Seceded States of Canada” are not atheists (or genius entertainers). The middle ground is living as good and honest a life as you can. Some use the Bible to guide them some don’t (although I bet the lessons they use as a guide came from the Bible).

This is what I was thinking when I heard about Arafat finally dying. Not quite as well thought out, of course, but I think this gentleman nailed what Arafat was all about

I saw some footage in Israel of some bearded Jews dancing in the streets. That makes them almost as bad as the Palestinians who danced after 9/11. I thought they were above that. Perhaps the middle east lack of respect for life is rubbing off on them.

Sour Grapes! Al Franken wept while Kerry was conceding. WEPT!! I don't know one conservative who would have wept if W lost. I don't get it. It's like those men who still cry when you mention Dale Earnhardt Sr. Gee wiz guys! You never met him. You probably didn't cry at the end of "Old Yeller", but you cry for a RACE CAR Driver! Weep for Kerry. He has to go home to his billionaire wife and go windsurfing. poor guy.

Perhaps he was weeping for America. We have a President who won't take any shit from Mealy Mouthed Liberal European Leaders who don't have the balls to stand up to the terrorists. Is it any surprise that Arafat went to France for treatment?!?! These MMLEL's think that by being NICE to terrorists they won't kill them. WRONG!!! What it shows the terrorists is that they are weak and will allow them to walk all over you. They will not stop at destroying America and Israel. They want all civilized nations brought down. Somewhere history screwed up. Islam was the great religion and was to be the power. But something went wrong and they want to turn back the clock 1000 years and be the power.

I worry about the middle east with Arafat gone. I worry that it will split and splinter apart. Not in a good way where it eventually dies off. I worry that the splinters will be merciless and even more hateful and barbaric than Arafat ever was. Some see his death as a way towards peace. I hope they are right. If it doesn't work out, at least we know who will get blamed, right?

Boy just fell asleep on the couch. I guess he had a good time with Granny and Gramps today. I'm going to go get him and put him to bed. back in a moment ....

... back. He's so out that A was able to undress him and put his jammies on without him waking. Tucker has taken to sleeping on Boy's bed. She thinks it's hers now. I find her there during the day and now find her there when Boy is sleeping, too. She just hopped up again. I think she is starting to love Boy. And not just because he feeds her, but because they are companions. Boy is better at playing with her now that he is almost four. No more is the game called "Pull Any Appendage As Hard As I Can!!" The canine appendages were getting sore. Now it is real play. fetch and tug-o-war. Big fun for both.

now that is nice way to end and a nice thought to put me to sleep. good night.

oh, almost forgot, check out my fun time at Lime Rock Park Race Track

What would a Bush Second Term Look Like

Bush Wins

Quote from the AP
"The victory gave Bush four more years to pursue the war on terror and a conservative, tax-cutting agenda, and probably the opportunity to name one or more justices to an aging Supreme Court"
1. As if, miraculously, the war on terror would end immediately upon Kerry's election. I was counting ballots last night and a woman actually believed that if Kerry were elected the war would end. How? I asked. nothing. She just bought into Kerry. I suppose I can understand and live with that. But, She went on to say how arrogant Bush was. I'm thinking to myself, If you think Bush is arrogant, and don't like it, how the hell can you like Kerry?
joke:
Kerry is told by an advisor: "You are not connecting with the average American."
Kerry: "Au contraire!"
Although it's a joke and an exaggeration of him, it rings true.
2. Not just a tax cutting agenda, but a conservative one. That means what? Oh yeah; tax breaks for the wealthy and big business. And I assume this means cutting all spending on black/hispaninc/Asian atheist pregnant single mothers who are blind in one eye and can't hear or speak and who live in the ghetto. What it means is that you and I get to keep our money and spend it as we see fit. I sent my rebate check to my church. Perhaps you bought some clothes, or paid down some of your debt. What it means is that all the special projects won't get their 35% increase. They'll only get 20%. Nevermind that inflation is only 2%. Why do government programs always need more of an increase than is reasonable?
3. An ultra conservative judge will not make it past the Senate. I just don't see it happening.

Heard at therapy this morning: "I fear for our country now." Why? Unfortunately I was not in position to question the speaker. But what is to happen? All of a sudden it's going to rain down terrorists and bombs? Is the earth going to swallow us up? I really did not want Kerry to win, but I have to admit to believing that if he did win, I did not fear for our country. I feared for the other countries who then would not get our protection and I feared the decline of my bank account. That's about it.

Election Day

Well I just voted. More out of habit than anything else. In my district in Connecticut, most races are pretty much a forgone conclusion. Democrats all the way. I'll never understand it. The Democrats swear they are the party of the down trodden, yet one of the richest states in the union is always Democrat. California and New York follow suit. Doesn't make sense.

The best thing about this contentious election is the awarness of the power of each person's vote. So many more people are now at least aware there is and election and interested in voting, too. The hard part will be keeping this interest alive. Hopefully, though it will start a person thinking that they could help in some way. Get them to volunteer for a candidate or join their party's town committee. Perhaps even leading that person to decide to run for office themselves. ah ... optimistic idealism ... so sweet.
